Obituary

Margaret “Maggie” Rhea Troxel, 44 of Farragut, IA was welcomed home to God on October 18, 2026. Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Margaret “Maggie” Rhea Troxel was born on March 8, 1982 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to parents Tom and Norma Troxel. She grew up on the Troxel Family Farm south of Farragut, Iowa and attended Farragut Community School. She graduated in 2000 and then attended Iowa State University. She earned her degree in Early Childhood Education in 2005. Maggie then returned to Southwest Iowa, settling in Shenandoah, Iowa. Maggie worked as a preschool teacher, and then at Hy-Vee for several years. The titles she was most proud of being called were “Miss Maggie” by her students and “Aunt Maggie” by her nieces.

Maggie was diagnosed with and treated for a pediatric brain tumor at the age of 14. Although she could proudly say she was a 30 year cancer survivor, the effects of this treatment impacted the course of her life. This caused many challenges, but through it all, Maggie remained a caring, determined, and faithful person who touched the lives of those around her.

Maggie was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Guild and loved teaching Religious Education. She was proud to leave her mark by creating the handprint wall in the St. Mary’s Preschool classroom. After attending Camp Co-Ho-Lo (Courage-Hope-Love) as a camper, she returned as a volunteer counselor for children with cancer. She also participated in Relay for Life for many years, and served as a team leader.

For fun, Maggie loved being creative and crafting by crocheting animals and quilting, painting and sharing these with others. She treasured family time, playing games, cheering on her Iowa State Cyclones and Kansas City Chiefs, and loved riding in the combine with her dad.

Maggie passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa on October 18th, 2026. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert and Lucille Jardon and Robert and Marilyn Troxel; uncles Ed Jardon and Roger McCampbell; aunt Laura Jardon; and cousins Hillary Jardon, Carl Palmcook, and Cory Palmcook. Left to treasure her memory are her parents, Tom and Norma Troxel (Farragut, IA), sisters and brothers-in-law Andria and Clint Head (Hastings, NE) and Kimberly and Adam Widner (Bellevue, NE) and nieces Jordan (Tanner Ingle) and Sydney Head and Rylee and Bailey Widner. Maggie is also survived by many, many, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and the friends she has made along her journey.

In her final act of generosity, Maggie chose to donate her body to science so future healthcare providers can learn and be better able to help others. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials can be made in her honor to St Mary’s Catholic Church Religious Education in Shenandoah, Iowa; Camp Co-Ho-Lo in Omaha  (www.camp-coholo.com), Nebraska; or the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa to support these organizations she cared deeply about.
