Obituary

Marcelene Binau, daughter of George W. and Jessie Jane (Woods) Booher, was born on May 15, 1927, in Athelstan, Iowa. She passed away at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa, on Friday, November 2, 2007, at the age of 80.

Her early life spent in Athelstan, where she attended school and lived there until her marriage to Guy Irvin in 1950. Following their marriage they lived for a short time in Athelstan before moving to Shenandoah. She was united in marriage to Charles E. Binau, Sr., on August 23, 1961, in Shenandoah. In the late 1940's, Marcelene volunteered as a nurse, taking care of war veterans in Mount Ayr, Iowa. In the early 1960's Marcelene worked at Mount Arbor Nurseries before going to work in the mid-1960's at the Hand Hospital in Shenandoah as a nurses aide. She continued in this capacity until the mid-1970's. During this time she also volunteered at the West Page Improvement Center in Shenandoah. Marcelene was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Shenandoah. She enjoyed her angel collection, listening to country music, camping, fishing and playing cards. Most important to her was her family and friends and especially spending time with her "grandbabies".

Preceding Marcelene in death were her parents; husband, Charles E. Binau, Sr.; daughter, Jessie (Irvin) Frohling; granddaughter, Darla Booher; three sisters, Viola (Booher) Grubb, Leona (Booher) Williams and Darlene (Booher) Jones; brother, George (June) Booher; and first husband, Guy Irvin, Sr. She is survived by her children, Earl Booher and his wife Denise of Shambaugh, IA, Guy (Bert) Irvin of Shenandoah, IA, Charlie Binau and his wife Mary of Shenandoah, IA, Mary Ellison of Villisca, IA, Connie Dawson and her husband James and Thelma Binau, all of Shenandoah, IA; brother, Glade Booher and his wife Dixie of Clarinda, IA; 24 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; 23 great great grandchildren; special friends, Clara Ware and Barb Shaw; other relatives and many friends.

Celebration of life funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. Words of comfort were given by Rev. David Widger. Attending the memory register were Debbie Binau and Suzie Harris. Special musical selections were "Angels", "Holes In The Floor Of Heaven", "I Can Only Imagine", "When I Get Where I'm Going" and "Love Can Build A Bridge". Honorary casket bearers were all of Marcelene's Loving Grandchildren. Casket bearers were Charles E. Binau, III, Guy Frohling, Luke Frohling, Sam Kier, Nathan Binau and Jacob Wright. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
