Madalene Rose Perkins was born July 11, 1919, near Farragut, Iowa the daughter of Ralph and E. Gertrude (Johnson) McDermott. Madalene passed away March 2, 2014 in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 94 years, 7 months and 19 days.
She grew up on a farm in Fremont County, Iowa and attended several rural elementary schools and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1937. Following graduation she worked at Mount Arbor Nurseries for a short period of time.
On June 20, 1939 she was united in marriage to Thomas N. Perkins at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. In this union seven children were born Thomas, Jr., John, Paul, Leo, Richard, Mary Rose, and Rita. After their marriage they were farmers in Montgomery, Mills, Page and Fremont counties. Madalene was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, and oil painting.
Madalene was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, infant son Thomas, Jr., parents Ralph and E. Gertrude McDermott, brothers Ernest and JR McDermott, sisters Irma Dinville and Lucile King, daughter-in-law Sharon (Anderson) Perkins, grandson-in-law Jeff Wheelbarger, brothers-in-law George Dinville and Dale King, and sister-in-law Viola McDermott.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children John Perkins and wife MiHee of Des Moines, IA, Paul Perkins of Red Oak, IA, Leo Perkins and wife Trish of Littleton, CO, Richard Perkins and wife Pat of Shenandoah, IA, Mary Rose Shedd and husband Paul of Omaha, NE, and Rita Kennedy and husband Lyle of Tabor, IA, sister Carole Catus and husband Gene of Ames, IA, grandchildren Paula Perkins, Stacy Perkins both of Red Oak, IA, Jeff (Karen) Perkins of Highland Ranch, CO, Sara (Jamie) Fair of Grand Junction, CO, Craig (Hayley) Perkins of Shenandoah, IA, Chris Perkins of Shenandoah, IA, Melissa (Don) Gay of College Springs, IA, and Michele (Lowell) Eden of Green Forest, AR, great-grandchildren Kylie, Jourdon, Tabitha, Megan, Brianna, Michael, Victoria, Kassie, Trevor, Tyler, Keely, Chase, Trey, and Nicholas, great-great-grandchild Josie Wheelbarger, step-great-grandchildren Andrea, Zackery and Kathelyn, step-great-great-granddaughters Gwen Franco and Veronica Gay, other family and friends.

Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
