Obituary

Lydia Elizabeth (Powers) Hill, 91, of Shenandoah, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community in Shenandoah. She was born on July 1, 1923 in Syracuse, Nebraska to John and Blanche (Lundy) Powers at the family home. She was the youngest of seven children.

Some years later, the family moved to Iowa near Hamburg in the Payne Junction area. Lydia received her education in country schools, being raised on the farm in her young life.

On January 29, 1938, Lydia was married to Pete Hill at Sidney, Iowa in the Methodist Church Parsonage by Reverend C. M. Corris. To this union three children were born, Barbara Jane, Larry Ambrose and Bobby Eugene.

Pete and Lydia were farmers in the Watson/Hamburg area until 1948 when they moved east of Shenandoah to farm and were there until 1970. They bought a farm east of Coin, Iowa, continuing to farm for the next 31 years until they retired in 2001. They purchased an acreage and home next to the Summit Church on Highway 59. Pete passed away in June of 2002 and Lydia continued living in her home until February 2014 when she went to live at Windsor Manor in Shenandoah.

Preceding Lydia in death were her husband Pete, after 64 1/2 years of marriage; daughter, Barbara Rainey; son, Larry Hill; son-in-law, Kenneth Rainey; grandson, Bud Rainey; her parents; four sisters; two brothers; two sister-in-laws; and four brother-in-laws.

Survivors include her son, Bobby Hill and wife Claire of Burlington, IA; ex-daughter-in-law, Deanna Ballain of Shenandoah, IA; grandchildren, Diana Myers and family of Shenandoah, IA, Tim Hill and family of Essex, IA, Audie Rainey and family of Red Oak, IA, Jerry Hill and family of Burlington, IA, Tony Hill and family of Red Oak, IA, Kandee Matthews and family of Nevarre, FL, Larry Rainey and family of Tampa, FL, Lisa Rainey and family of Northboro, IA; 14 great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
