Obituary

Larry Richard Supernaw of Farragut, IA was born on March 14, 1942 in Neodesha, Kansas to Claude A. and Evelyn (Loewe) Supernaw. He passed away Saturday Jan. 21, 2017 in Scottsdale, AZ at the age of 74 yrs.

Larry grew up in Farragut, IA graduating with the class of 1960. After graduating, he worked for his uncle farming and held various jobs until he was fortunate to take over for a retiring farmer in 1962, purchasing his equipment and renting his land in Locust Grove Township from Roy Carpenter. The association with the Carpenter family continued for 45 years. For another 5 years, Larry farmed land he had acquired, retiring in 2012 after 50 years of farming in southwest Iowa.

On December 14, 1963 Larry married Joyce Brooks of Farragut. Soon after, he joined the Army National Guard taking his basic training In Ft. Jackson, SC. After returning, they moved into Farragut where they resided for 30 years. In 1996 they moved to their present home on a family farm.

Larry and Joyce enjoyed traveling spending many winter months in Arizona. Of high interest and enjoyment to Larry, were playing cards, golf, hunting, classic cars, and fishing especially in Saskatchewan, Canada. In recent years, he acquired a 1955 Chevy and enjoyed going to car shows and traveling with a motor Iowa group touring various points in and near Iowa. He was a 46 yr. member of Shenandoah Elks Lodge #1122 and the American Legion Post 88.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Claudine Supernaw.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Joyce of 53 years, brother Wayne (Martha) Supernaw of Nebraska City NE., his children Mark (Rita) Supernaw and Marilyn (Dan) Gable of LaVista, NE. Brothers in law, Bruce (Kathy) Brooks and children Lance, Kristy, Amy and families, Chuck (Claudia) Brooks and children Curtis and Craig and families along with many other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life visitation and gathering will be held from 11 am - 1 pm, Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Shenandoah Elks Lodge #1122 in Shenandoah. Lunch will be catered.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Shenandoah Elks Lodge #1122 or The Greater Shenandoah Foundation to support the Farragut Cemetery Beautification Fund.

Private burial of cremains will be held at a later date in the Farragut Cemetery.
