Larry Leon Irvin, son of George Elton and Frances Isabel (Roberts) Irvin, was born on May 3, 1937 in Clarinda, Iowa. He entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 17, 2015 at the age of 78 at the Good Samaritan Society Care Center in Red Oak, Iowa, where he had been a resident.
At the age of two, Larry and his family moved from Clarinda to Shenandoah. Larry attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1956.
On March 13, 1960, Larry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marcella Nelson in Essex, Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home in Shenandoah. To this union, one son, Douglas was born.
In 2000, after 20 years of service as a guard, Larry retired from the Clarinda Correctional Facility. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and most of all, spending time with his family. In 2009, after declining health, Larry moved from Shenandoah to Red Oak and the Good Samaritan Society.
Preceding Larry in death were his parents; wife, Marcella Irvin; sister, Delores Josephson Brooks; two brothers, Lowell and Gordon Irvin; and nephew, Randy Irvin. Survivors include his son, Doug Irvin and wife Michelle of Simsbury, CT; four grandchildren, David, Rachel, Zachary and Hannah Irvin, all of Simsbury, CT; three brothers, Charles Irvin and wife Joan, Richard Irvin and wife JoDayle and Michael Irvin and wife Connie, all of Shenandoah, IA; other relatives and many friends.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
Burial was held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
