On April 1, 1942 in Altoona, Iowa a son Larry Clark was born to Earl and Mary (Hayes) Glasgo. On Thursday, August 19, 2021, at his home in Essex, Larry was called home to be with his heavenly father and reunited with his beloved wife Lorna. He was 79 years old.
The family moved from Altoona to Shenandoah and later to Essex in 1952 where Larry has since resided. He graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1960. On September 2, 1962 he was united in marriage to Lorna Rae Hanson. The couple was blessed with the birth of two daughters Susan and Sonja. The couple enjoyed 57 years of marriage before Lorna's passing on December 29, 2019.
Larry began his working career alongside his future father-in-law Ray Hanson at Essex Hardware in 1959. They provided heating and plumbing services to Essex and the surrounding communities. Larry and Lorna purchased the business in 1981. They retired in 2005. In 2012 Larry started working part-time at Hy-Vee in Shenandoah until November of 2020 when he fully retired.
Larry was a member of several boards including the Essex School Board, the Farmers Telephone Board, Essex Housing Board, Southview Village Board, served on the church counsel and was also a member of the Essex Commercial Club. Some of his hobbies included gardening, camping, supporting his grandchildren in their many activities, biking, playing cards and square dancing. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lorna; parents Earl and Mary Glasgo; in-laws Ray and Marvyl Hanson; siblings Don, Richard, Jerry and Ronnie Glasgo; and brother-in-law Bill Hanson. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters Susan Isaacson and husband Doug of Stanton, IA and Sonja Cannon and husband Craig of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Dustin and Devin Isaacson and Braden Cannon; siblings J.D. Glasgo, Bill Glasgo and wife Tish, Nancy Drake and husband Don, and Connie Quist and husband Doug; sisters-in-law Kate Glasgo, Terry Glasgo, Judy Glasgo and Mary Ann Serbousek; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or Essex Fire and Rescue.
