Kristin Ann (Johnson) Bennett, daughter of William Herschel and Donna Jean (Coston) Johnson, was born on January 17, 1957 at Hand Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, November 27, 2015 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 58 years old.
Kris, as she was known, spent her early life in Shenandoah where she attended the Shenandoah Community Schools (Class of 1975).
On December 11, 1977, Kris was united in marriage to James Edward Bennett, Jr., in Shenandoah. Following their marriage they resided for a short time in Loveland, CO, Las Vegas, NV and New Mexico. To this union two children, Dena Jean and James L. were born.
Kris worked in the restaurant business from the time she was about 17 to the time her illness forced an early retirement. Some of the local establishments she worked at were the Shamrock Caf, the Heritage House (co-owner) and lastly, at the Depot Deli as head cook and manager.
Kris had a great passion for cooking and also very much enjoyed sewing. She liked listening to country music and grew to love Irish bag pipes and the group Celtic Women.
Preceding Kris in death were her grandparents, Charles L. and Sarah Etta (Johnson) Coston and William Orval and Maude Estelle (Smith) Johnson; her parents; and ex-husband, James Edward Bennett, Jr.
Survivors include her two children, Dena Jean (Bennett) Gideon and James L. Bennett; son-in-law, Roy Gideon; three grandchildren, Ian (Bennett) Gideon, Zane Gideon and Azariea Anna Mae Gideon; sister, Janice D. Johnson; two brothers, Bill Johnson and Dean L. Johnson and wife Barbara (Snow), all of Shenandoah. Also surviving are her seven nieces and nephews; 24 great nieces and nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; many friends and best friend, Charlene Blank of Shenandoah.
Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
Memorials are being directed to the family.
