Kolleen Joan (Hughes) McGargill, daughter of Joseph Edward and Jackie Jean (Reed) Hughes, was born on March 20, 1966, in Shenandoah, Iowa. She eternally entered into rest on Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at her home in rural Randolph, Iowa, following a lengthy bout with cancer.
Her early life was spent growing up in the rural Imogene, Iowa, area. Kolleen attended the Farragut Community Schools, graduating from Farragut High School with the Class of 1984. She then attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri, graduating in May of 1988 with her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career at Albany, Missouri. Kolleen then taught at Saint Albert's Primary in Council Bluffs, Iowa for eight years. She enrolled at Creighton University in Omaha and received her Master's Degree in Counseling in December of 1997.
On April 6, 1997, Kolleen married her high school love, Dave Luke McGargill at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imogene. They made their home in rural Imogene where Kolleen continued to work at St. Albert's School until May of 1999. To Kolleen and Dave were born four children: Taylor McGargill was born on April 27, 1998, Paul McGargill born on July 20, 1999, Emily McGargill born on November 11, 2001, and Morgan McGargill was born on August 24, 2003. She was a lifetime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was active in the Altar Society and Faith Formation Education Board. Kolleen enjoyed running, exercising, playing volleyball and traveling. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Preceding Kolleen in death were her grandparents, Robert and Dorothy Reed and Lucille and Leo Hughes; aunt, Mary Ditmars; and two uncles, Johnny Hughes and Billy Hughes. Survivors include her husband, Dave McGargill and children, Taylor, Paul, Emily and Morgan of rural Randolph, IA; parents, Joe and Jackie Hughes; ten brothers and sisters, Kim Hughes and wife Becky, Kelly Hughes, Kevin Hughes and wife Stacy, Karla Hughes, Karoline Carnes and husband Scott, Kenny Hughes and wife Theresa, Kay Durfey and husband Doug, Karrie Hughes, Kirk Hughes and fianc Emily Olesen, and Kris Hughes; father and mother-in-law, Luke and Beverly McGargill; other relatives and many friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, September 15, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imogene. Celebrant was Father Kenneth Gross. Attendee was Father John Clark. Concelebrants were Father Dan Kirby, Father James Kleffman, and Father Vern Smith. Placing of the Pall was by Kay Durfey and Kris Hughes. Organist was Larry Mannasmith. Song leader was Therese Sunderman. Musical selections were "Here I Am Lord", "Seek Ye First", "Precious Lord, Take My Hand", "Prayer Of St. Francis", "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman" and "On Eagles Wings". Altar servers were Brady Gutschenritter and Joe Blake. Lectors were Kirk Hughes and Jake McGargill. Gift bearers were Taylor McGargill, Kennedy Hughes and Annie Van Houten. Caring for the flowers were Becky Hughes, Teresa Hughes, Jodi McGargill and Emily Olesen. Ushers were Doug Durfey and Scott Carnes. Attending the memory register were Tammy Franks and Linda Laughlin. Casket bearers were Kim Hughes, Kevin Hughes, Kelly Hughes, Kenny Hughes, Kirk Hughes, Tom McGargill, Kenny McGargill and Tim McGargill. Honorary casket bearers were Karla Hughes, Karoline Hughes Carnes, Kay Hughes Durfey, Karrie Hughes, Kris Hughes, Stacy Hughes and Jenny Hughes. Interment was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Imogene. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are being directed to the Dave & Kolleen McGargill Children's Education Fund.
