Kevin Dale Thomas was born on June 4, 1959 in Ames, Iowa, the son of Dale and Marian Thomas. Kevin entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Shenandoah Medical Center.
The first year of his life was spent in Ames, Iowa. The family later moved to a farm west of Coin. Kevin received his primary education in the South Page School System, graduating from South Page High School with the Class of 1978. He later attended Northwest Missouri State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Business in 2001.
In August of 1988, Kevin was united in marriage to Janice Marie Pederson at the Coin United Methodist Church. Following their marriage they lived on a farm north of Blanchard, Iowa. Kevin later moved to his farm west of Coin where he spent the rest of his days following the untimely death of his beloved wife, Janice.
Throughout his life, Kevin farmed and also worked at Eaton Corporation and for Central Surveys. He was a member of the Clearmont Baptist Church. Kevin was particularly interested in airplanes and flying. He also enjoyed music (especially piano), guns and playing video games. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and especially cherished the time spent with his grandchildren.
Preceding Kevin in death was his wife, Janice Thomas. He is survived by his parents, Dale and Marian Thomas of Coin, IA; five children, Matthew Thomas of Maryville, MO, Amanda Jones and husband Mike of Council Bluffs, IA, Kelsey Lowery and husband Adam of Shenandoah, IA, Michele Heitman of Red Oak, IA and Kenneth Jones and wife Amber of Jesup, IA; six grandchildren, Devin and Gabriel Lowery of Shenandoah, IA, Samuel Jones of Council Bluffs, IA, Mercedes and McKenzie Nissan and Shelby Heitman of Red Oak, IA; sister, Susan Murphy and husband Rob of Poplar Bluff, MO; brother, Brad Thomas and wife Melissa of Coin, IA; other relatives and many friends.
Kevin will be missed by all his family. We all loved him, "Big-a-much."
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home with Pastors Don and Marcia Barnett officiating. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Debbie Pope attended to the memorial register. Special Music was provided by Mike Pope who sang "I Can Only Imagine" and Pastor Marcia who sang "When We All Get To Heaven". Casket Bearers included Jeff Miller, Wes Miller, Brad Hutchinson, Allen Hutchinson, Ray Davison, Mike Pope, Jake McGargill, Dave Lashier, and David Waldron. Memorials may be directed to the family. Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
