Kenneth Leroy Johnson, son of Herman E. and Edna E. (Westenberg) Johnson, was born on September 18, 1927 in Page County, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Kenneth grew up in several communities in Southwest Iowa. He graduated from Stennett High School with the class of 1945. From 1950 to 1952 he served his county in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On January 16, 1954, he was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Cox at the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. They resided in several communities in Southwest Iowa, then Lincoln, Nebraska before making Shenandoah their home.

In 1985, after 30 years, retired from Burlington Northern Railroad as a Agent Operator with the Creston Division, his last working years with the railroad were spent in Lincoln, Nebraska working at the Havelock facility.

Kenneth was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hamburg, Iowa, American Legion Post 3 of Lincoln, Nebraska, Burlington Northern Veterans Association and Korean War Veteran Survivors. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan also enjoyed collecting railroad memorabilia, visiting flea markets and antique malls.

He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly Johnson, parents Herman E. and Edna E. Johnson, brothers Philip H., Warren R. and Curtis Johnson, sisters Cleone and Ruth Marie.

Kenneth is survived by his daughter Michele Polk of Shenandoah, son Brian Johnson and wife Anne of Bella Vista, AR, grandsons Gregory Polk of Shenandoah, Matthew Polk and wife Paige of Sidney and Andrew Polk and wife Rebecca of Shenandoah, great grandkids Maclay Polk, Dakota Polk, Evey Polk and Noah Johnson, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life funeral service will be held 11:30 am, Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah.

Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to service from 10:30-11:30 am, Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah.

Burial will be held the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah with military rites provided by the Shenandoah American Legion Post 88 Color Guard.
