Kelly Thomas Nesmith, son of Tom and Darlene Nesmith, was born on October 10, 1962 in Shenandoah, Iowa.  He passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at his home in Council Bluffs at the age of 59.

A 1981 Shenandoah High School graduate, Kelly enlisted in the Army after high school.  He served his country for 8 years before receiving an honorable discharge.  After the Army, Kelly held a variety of jobs; his latest was as a locomotive engineer for Union Pacific Railroad.  Kelly enjoyed fishing and grilling with friends and family.

Preceding him in death were his parents.  Survivors include his wife, Karen Wolford; siblings Linda (Robert) Romick, Gary Cooper and Sheryl (Robert) Shelton; niece Kristin (Darren) Jez; nephews Steve (Jaymie) Goodall and Steve McKinney; great-nephew Braydon; in-laws Derry and Phyllis Wolford; sister-in-law Karla (Mike) Koval; other relatives and friends.

Private family graveside services will be held in the Omaha Veterans Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United States Army and the Millard American Legion Rifle Squad Post 374. The family will greet family and friends at the Shenandoah Eagles Club (in the back room) on Saturday, July 2, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  Friends are welcome to stop by, visit and share their memories of Kelly in this informal gathering.   Memorials may be directed to the family and sent to Karen Nesmith; PO Box 222; Council Bluffs, IA 51503
