Kathleen Mary (O'Sullivan) Doyle, the daughter of Patrick and Catherine (Murphy) O'Sullivan, was born on the O'Sullivan Farmstead on October 23, 1926 in Sneem, County Kerry, Ireland.  The delivery of Kathleen was assisted by a mid-wife, which was the custom at that time.  Kathleen passed away at her daughter's home on August 25, 2025.   Kathleen received her education from the Sisters of Mercy in Killarney, Ireland and following graduation from high school she entered nursing school in London, England and became a registered nurse.

Kathleen worked in her profession in London for a year and then decided she wanted to travel.  She consulted with her Uncle, Monsignor Jeremiah O'Sullivan, who was in Nebraska and he encouraged her by saying "what's holding you back, follow your dream".  Soon after she set out for Omaha, Nebraska, where she found employment as a registered nurse and eventually became a citizen of the United States.

Kathleen married Ambrose Doyle on June 25, 1955 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imogene, Iowa.  They made their home together in the rural Imogene / Randolph area where she was active as a farmer's wife, mother, and in her nursing profession.  She cooked for hired help and took meals to the fields; she maintained the farm records and prepared the annual tax information for the CPA.   Kathleen worked for 35 years at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital and worked as Director of Nursing for the Sidney Healthcare Center for 4 years, before she returned to the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, where she could enjoy the action and excitement of the trauma unit.  She retired from nursing in 2004 at the age of 78 years old.   Ambrose and Kathleen were members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imogene, and she served on its Altar Society.  In 2006, Kathleen made her home in Council Bluffs where she led an active life.  She became a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.  She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.   She enjoyed anything that had to do with her grandkids, cooking, reading, and social functions with her friends, and working out on the treadmill.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her former husband, Ambrose; sister Mary Brady and husband Denis of Tulla, County Clare, Ireland; brothers, Jeremiah and John O'Sullivan, brothers-in-law, Tom Mullen, Maurice Doyle, Edward Doyle, Donnie Doyle; sisters-in-law, Mary Langston, Shirley Ruckdashel, Anne Doyle; and her daughter-in-law, Margie and son-in-law, Robert.

Surviving are four children – Patricia Niedermyer and husband Tom of Logan, Iowa; Kenneth Doyle of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; Charlene Boehm of Silver City, Iowa and Joanne Faul and husband Mark of Parker, Colorado.  Kathleen's grandchildren and their spouses and great grandchildren include – Christina & Kellon Clark – Korina and Colton; Bridget & Jonnie Wyman and three daughters – Rowyn, Indie, Charlotte; Bruce & Brianne Niedermyer and their children – Beckham, Blake & Brynli; Linsey Hemmingsen and her three children Rylee, Tenley & Ryker; Ashley Boehm & Fiancé Trey Robinson; Doyle Faul and his children Riley and Jack; Anna & Mark Walczyk; and Gannon & Ellie Faul.  Kathleen is also survived by sister Joan Mullen from Colorado and Sister-in-Law – Dee Doyle; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends and family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Imogene, Iowa.  Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. followed by visitation until 11:30 a.m. at the church.  Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Country Church Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.  The mass will be live streamed on the St. Patrick Catholic Church Facebook page.
