Obituary

Karon LaVonne York the daughter of William Samuel York and Evelyne Pearl Adkins York was born on January 11, 1945 at Shenandoah, Iowa and passed away at Montgomery County Hospital on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the age of 72.

Karon grew up in the Shenandoah and Essex, Iowa area. She attended Essex Community Schools graduating in 1964. Karon had worked for the Hand Hospital in Shenandoah for several years in housekeeping and kitchen. Later she moved to Omaha where she worked at Clarkson Hospital and at Richmond Gordman Stores in their warehouse, until her retirement. Karon moved back to Essex in 2005 after her father Sam's death and became a devoted care giver for her mother Evelyne. In high school she was a member of the Y-teens and the PEP Club and served as student librarian. She was also a member of the Fremont Farmeretts 4-H Club. In Omaha she was an active member of the F.O.E #154 (Eagles) of South Omaha for 35 years where she served in many of the offices including president. She was also chairman of the Alzheimer Research Fundraising Committee for the Eagles Club. Karon was know as a hard worker in all that she did. She loved her dogs and cats and taking trips with Neihart Tours.

Karon was preceded in death by her father William Samuel (Sam) York. Survivors include her mother Evelyne Pearl York; brothers Kieth York and wife Carol and Bill York and wife Nancy all of Essex, Iowa. Nieces and nephews; Janine Johnson and husband Matt, Gary York and wife Mindi, Jill Swenson and husband Bob, James York and wife Tara; great nieces and nephews, Zachary, Alex and Elise Dailey, Keely and Samantha York, Aiden York; along with other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life memorial service will be held 1:30 pm, Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Veterans Memorial Chapel at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.

Memorial Visitation with the family will be held from 1:00 pm until 1:30 pm, Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Veterans Memorial Chapel at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.

Burial of cremains will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to People for PAWS or Essex Fire & Rescue.
