June Gretchen Maher, daughter of Louis Detlef Roenfeld and Elsie (Heine) Roenfeld, was born on October 1, 1928 in Pacific Junction, Iowa. June passed away on September 9, 2014 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 85.
June grew up in Mineola, Iowa and graduated from Silver City High School in Silver City, Iowa. Upon completion of high school, she was one of the first persons hired to work at the new Union Carbide Factory in Red Oak, Iowa. She worked there until shortly after her marriage to Carl Maher. They were united in marriage on March 30, 1959 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Imogene, Iowa.
June loved taking care of her family and home. The wants and needs of others were always placed above her own. A fond and familiar memory of June is seeing her work in her yard and garden. A trusted pet would usually follow her from one end of the garden to the other. Typical of her giving nature, most of her garden produce would be given away to others.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Maher; parents, Louis and Elsie Roenfeld, and brothers Mike, Paul, Albert, and Milton.
Those left to cherish her memory include sons Brian Maher and wife, Marcy, of Union, Missouri and Blaine Maher and fiancee, Dana, of Essex, Iowa, and grandchildren Morgan and Nick Maher of Union, Missouri.
May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn her loss.
Burial will be held at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Imogene, Iowa
Memorials may be directed to the family.
