Obituary

John Patrick Tinley, 65, of Essex, Iowa passed away at his home with his beloved dog Elliott by his side, on Saturday, March 17, 2018.

John grew up in Shenandoah and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1970. He graduated from Simpson College with a BA in History in 1975 and went on to pursue a BA in Secondary Education from the University of Wyoming and master's degree in Counseling Education from the University of Wyoming. He was a substance abuse counselor and therapist in Lander, WY., and in Shenandoah.

The biggest joys of his life were his wife, Pam, his two daughters, Melissa and Emily, and his dog, Elliott. He had countless friends everywhere he went, and often made people smile and laugh. He loved telling stories, and talking about the good-old days of growing up in Shenandoah and of his college days at Simpson. He was a very sentimental man. He was a big Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed ribbing the Husker fans.

Proceeding John in death were his parents John and Louise Tinley of Shenandoah (Owners of The Shenandoah Evening Sentinel), and his wife Pam in 2012. Survivors include daughters Melissa Davidson of Boise, ID and Emily Cooper and husband Matt of Jackson, WY.; and his brother Phil Tinley of Laguna Woods, CA., and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Presbyterian Church in Shenandoah. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to People For Paws 809 W Valley; Shenandoah, IA 51601.
