John Burton Novinger, the son of Wilbur H. and Neva Novinger, was born in New Market, IA on June 24, 1928, and passed away at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE on December 6, 2011 at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 12 days.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Barrett on July 3, 1949 in Shenandoah, IA. They lived most of their married life in Shenandoah, IA where John was employed with Iowa Power Light until his retirement from the company (Mid American Energy). He was a long time, active member of the Community of Christ Church where he served as an Elder. John enjoyed participating and contributing to Shenandoah community activities, including Kiwanis Club.
John loved to travel with Phyllis, participate in church activities, woodworking, gardening, but spending time with Phyllis, his children, grandchildren, extended family and many friends was his greatest joy.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Jean of Shenandoah, IA; and their three children: Louise Novinger and husband Robert Hoeglund of Palmer Lake, CO; Bill Novinger and wife Cindy of Shenandoah, IA; Ross Novinger and wife Glenda of Vacaville, CA. Grandchildren include: Louise's daughter Katey and her husband Ron Calpo; Bill's sons Joshua and his fiance Ali and Justin; and Ross' children Amanda, Sarah and her husband Eric Ostrom, Samuel, Neva and Jason. Sisters: Helen Clayton and husband Orie and Louise Merkle and husband Dick. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Wilbur Novinger and mother Neva O'Dell Novinger.
John will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by those whose lives he has touched.
