John passed away July 3, 2013 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa.

John Thomas McDonald was born on July 24, 1929 in Imogene, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Catherine (Maher) McDonald. John entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in Red Oak, Iowa.
John's early years were spent on the family farm 4 miles north of Imogene. He attended St. Patrick Academy where he graduated in 1947. His class included only 4 boys: John Hughes, John Torpy, himself and Frank Nebel. On July 24, 1970 he was united in marriage to Margaret Tourek at St. Rosa Church in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple resided in Imogene, following their wedding. To this union three children were born: Mary Ann, Kerry and John.
John farmed his entire life. He was proud of the fact that he was caring for the farm ground that he was raised on. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, and caring grandfather. Special times with his family brought him much joy. In his younger days, he enjoyed listening to baseball games on the radio, Stan Musial was his favorite player. When the children were growing up John and the family would attend Kansas City Royals baseball games. Later when Mary Ann and Kerry were in college they enjoyed going to Creighton basketball games.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Katie McDonald; brother Emmett McDonald; sister Eloise Kaiser; brother-in-laws Lou Laughlin and Paul Kaiser; nephew Mike McDonald; sister-in-law Ruth McDonald; great-niece Mary Grace McDonald; and great-nephews Joseph Lilly and Joey Kaiser.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 42 years Margaret; children Mary Ann McDonald and husband Chris Wayne and Kerry McDonald all of Omaha, NE. and John McDonald and wife Ashley of Stanton, IA.; grandchildren Rachel, Elly, James, Quinn and Maeve; 2 sister Mary Kay Laughlin of Imogene, IA. And Eleanor Eller and husband Frank of Bellwood, NE; a brother Jim McDonald of Imogene, IA.; sister-in-law Ann McDonald of Imogene, IA; other relatives and a host of friends.
