John "Jack" C. Haldeman

John Carter Haldeman, age 86, of Olathe, Kansas, formerly of Shenandoah, Iowa passed away May 10, 2012 at Santa Marta Nursing Home in Olathe, Kansas. John was born September 17, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska to John I. and Olivia B. (Carter) Haldeman.
Growing up in Shenandoah, Jack attended Central Grade School, Shenandoah Junior High and three years at Shenandoah High School. He attended Culver Summer Navel Academy and graduated from high school at Kemper Military Academy.
Jack joined the Navy B-12 program at Southeast Missouri State College followed by three years in the U.S. Navy. He was aboard the USS Pringle as a radio operator in the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. His ship was sunk off of Okinawa April 16, 1945.
Following World War II, Jack attended the University of Missouri and received a degree in Marketing.
Jack worked for his father at the Home Oil Company in Shenandoah from 1950-1957. He married Margaret Goodner of Shenandoah in 1953.
From 1957-1970 John lived in Cedar Rapids and worked for Collins Radio and Tommy Tucker Realty. In 1970, he moved Iowa City and worked for Roshek's Dept. Store. Prior to retirement, Jack was a dispatcher for the University of Iowa Security. Following retirement, John and Margarent returned to live in Shenandoah. They joined the First Presbyterian Church and First Congregational Church. He later moved to Olathe, Kansas to be closer to his daughter, Anne.
Throughout many years, Jack was active in PTA, Kiwanis and Amateur Radio.
Preceding John in death was his wife Margaret; his parents, John I. and Olivia Haldeman; a sister, who died at birth; brother-in-law, Thomas Goodner; sister-in-law, Helen Hawk and husband Kenneth; and his father and mother-in-law, William and Eva Goodner.
John will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Jane Haldeman and her husband Doug Price, and Anne Barcus and Mike Barcus; five grandchildren, Cameron Price, Mallory Price, Elizabeth Foster, Jennifer Kim, and Bradley Barcus; great-grandchildren, Mia and Miley Kim, Matthew and Andrew Foster; sister-in-law, Phyllis Goldberg; other relatives and friends.
