John Henry Armstrong, age 89 a retired Boeing Supervisor of Quality Assurance died on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 following a nine-year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.

John was born on the family farm near Northboro, Iowa on April 30, 1920, the son of John and Flora Armstrong. He attended school at West Point Country School and Northboro High School where he graduated with the Class of 1938. After high school he worked in the consolidated aircraft plant in Dan Diego, CA, till being drafted in the Army in January of 1944. He served his country in Germany in WWII, where he was a machine gunner and was awarded three battle stars.

After his service he farmed with his brother, Oren. He was united in marriage to Jean Polsley of Coin, Iowa on July 18,1950. The couple lived in Coin until January of 1953, when they moved to Wichita, KS. John was employed at Boeing for 32 years. John and Jean moved to their home in Haysville, KS in 1955, their son, John David was born in 1956.

John was an active member of the Haysville United Methodist Church, was a little league baseball coach for a number of years, enjoyed gardening, playing cards and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Jean, son John David of Burlingame, CA; 4 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers Harry, Don, Ollie, Oren and Arthur; and five sisters Susan, Martha, Mildred, Edna and a sister in infancy.
