Obituary

John (Bear) Anthony Meyer, son of Roger Charles and Bernice Ellen (Monnett) Meyer, was born on August 17, 1949 in Maryville, Missouri. He passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Bear spent his childhood in rural Imogene and graduated from Shenandoah High School. He continued his education at Iowa Western Community College and then received his Business degree from Northwest Missouri State. He spent his time after college farming, socializing with friends, and spending time with family. On July 29, 1988 he was united in marriage to Deborah Maria Mullenberg in Imogene. They lived in Shenandoah for many years raising three children until moving to rural Imogene. Bear continued his love of farming, socializing, having the Bear Special of Diet Coke at the Emerald Isle, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Bear was a proud member of FFA, the editor of the Shenandoah High Newspaper, a member of 4H and Jay-Cee's in his early years. As an adult, Bear enjoyed being with the Knights of Columbus and St. Mary's Catholic Church, active in the Wabash Trace, and a frequent topic of The Hub newspaper. In his later years, Bear enjoyed feeding the birds, tending to his orchard, smoking meat on the grill, and providing too many snacks for his grandkids.

Bear was preceded in death by his father Roger and mother Bernice.

Bear is survived by his wife Deb, children Jenny (Jim) Mullenberg, Tony (Jesselyn) Meyer, Anna (Ian) Stephens. His grandchildren Elizabeth, Maria, Luke, Ruby, Coy, and Theodore. His siblings Kathy (Tom) Maher, Delores (Tom) Beckenbaugh, George (Diana) Meyer, Marjorie Meyer, Don (Gina) Meyer, Jerry (Lita) Meyer and Anita Meyer & husband Gary Toth, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Bear was a friend to all and a stranger to none. There's too many stories and memories of Bear to share right now. We look forward to sharing these with you in the future.
