An open house for friends and family to remember Joe will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Joe's home located at 2000 255th St in Coin, IA 51636. With a tribute to Joe starting at 2:00. Please consider carpooling. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Wabash Trace Nature Trail, People 4 Paws or Red Oak Depot Museum.
Joseph Michael Skahill was born on June 7, 1957 in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of James and Margaret (Ditmars) Skahill. Joe entered into eternal peace on Friday, August 16, 2024 at his home in rural Coin, Iowa.
Joe's early years were spent in the Red Oak and Imogene area. He graduated from Red Oak High School with the Class of 1975. Following graduation he worked for Parker Hannifin, until his retirement as a shift manager in 2018.
Joe was the founder of the locally acclaimed Wabash Murder Mystery Theatre. This was a project that he was very proud of and one that brought him a lot of laughter and great memories. Joe also had a passion for playing various instruments such as the guitar, banjo, fiddle and flute. He enjoyed rooting for his favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2022, he was united in marriage to Kelly Gee. The couple enjoyed time spent with each other on their farm in rural Coin.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Margaret Skahill and brother Larry Skahill. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Kelly Gee; son Dusty (Chrissy) Skahill; grandsons Beau and Leo Skahill; sisters Diane Stevenson, Geri Wood, and Jean Mellott; brothers Vince Skahill and Bix Skahill; other relatives and many friends.
