Joe Croll's Obituary
Joseph Leroy Croll was born on March 21, 1955 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Lawrence LeeRoy and Alma Rebecca (Prohaska) Croll. Joe entered into the arms of his Lord on Monday evening, July 11, 2011 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa surrounded by his loving and supportive family.
Joe's early years were spent in Des Moines. He attended Oak Park Elementary School, Harding Junior High School and North High School where he graduated with the Class of 1973. He later went on to attend Iowa Western Community College.
On November 3, 1984 he was united in marriage to Annette Freemyer in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple made their home in Shenandoah. During his working days, he was a dedicated employee of Hy-Vee. He began his career with Hy-Vee in January of 1971, working in Des Moines. He later transferred to the Shenandoah store where he worked until April of 2010. Joe held a special place in his heart for all the teenagers that he taught the meaning of life to at Hy-Vee.
Joe was very active in the community. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men, he was the Girl Scouts "Cookie King", was the leader of Super Kids Club, served as a candidate to the Annual Methodist Conference where he served as Sergeant at Arms, was a member of the worship committee, certified lay speaker and was President of Storyland Pre-School in 1996.
Some of his passions included camping, attending his children's events, flea markets, reading books regarding the assassination of John F. Kennedy, collecting baseball cards and coins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Norris and Fern Croll and Joe and Coral Prohaska and an infant sister Sharon Croll.
Those left to honor his memory include his devoted wife Annette of Shenandoah; children Valerie, Brenton and Whitney Croll of Shenandoah; parents Larry and Alma Croll of Des Moines, IA; brother Gary Croll and wife Lorraine of Clive, IA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mike and Shirley Good of Farragut and brother-in-law Duane Freemyer of Kemmerer, WY; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends far and wide.
