Joann Anderson's Obituary
JoAnn was born on December 18, 1932 to Rudy and Anna (Johnson) Olson and passed away at her home on September 23, 2009 at the age of 76 years, 8 months, and 23 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm, Iowa. She graduated from Boxholm High School in 1950 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After graduation, she taught school in Essex and Urbana, Iowa.
On June 12, 1954 she was married to Robert G. Anderson and lived in Percival, Iowa for five years and in the Essex area for the last 50 years. To their union four daughters were born - Joni Jones, Frankston, Texas; Jane King, Red Oak; Jennifer Anderson, Essex; and Jean Branscum, Helena, Montana.
JoAnn was a "stay-at-home" mother who was very active in the community and church. She served as a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent for many years, and also served on the Church Council at St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex. JoAnn was 4-H leader for over 10 years and served on the Page County Extension Council. She helped organize the Page County Cattlewomen (Cowbelles) and went on to serve as state president for two years. JoAnn was co-chair of the Page County Republicans for many years and served as co-chair for Jim Lightfoot's campaign. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 47 years and a 50+ year member of the Eastern Star. She was known for remembering all the sick and shut-ins for holidays and their birthdays with a card.
She is survived by her husband, Bob, daughters and their families - Joni Jones and her husband Jerry, Julie and her husband Matt Nally, Jerry, and Jackie Jones; Jane King and John, Jacob, and Janelle King; Jennifer Anderson and D.J. Jenkins; and Jean Branscum and her husband Todd, Cheyenne and Dylan Branscum; two great grandsons - Jackson and Haydon Nally; two sisters - Jeanette Sprecher and Judy Outtrim; four brothers - Bill and Jo Olson; Dean and Joyce Olson; Bob and LeAnn Olson; and Gene and Linda Olson; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudy and Anna Olson, a sister, Janice Doran, and a son-in-law, Charlie King.
