Joan passed away on Sunday morning, June 16, 2019 at The Ambassador in Sidney.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Farragut Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Grape Community Hospital Foundation or the Shenandoah Ambulance Service.

Joan listened every day to KMA radio and was happy to not hear her name be on the list of passings. On June 16, 2019, things changed. Although her name was called, she was called to a higher place to join family and friends who preceded her.

Joan Emily Knackstedt was born in McPherson, Kansas on May 7, 1932 to Orville Henry and Lillie Mae (Holland) Knackstedt. At age 10 her parents separated and she went with her mother and sisters to Sidney, Iowa. Joan started school in Poplar Bluff and went to school in Everton and Nevada, Missouri and through the 9th grade in Sidney, Iowa. Joan quit school to help her mother, by working at Daniels Caf and at the telephone office as an operator. In 1950 she moved to Shenandoah, Iowa where she moved in with Midge (Mosser) Snodgrass. There she worked at Spurgeon's Clothing.

In 1952 she met Kenneth Reid Kingsolver. They were married on July 27, 1952 in Sidney, Iowa surrounded by family and friends. In 1958 they were blessed with a son, Lee Howard Kingsolver. Joan was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. After her husband's passing, Joan worked at the Ambassador as a cook and then at Walmart until retirement.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters Norma Knackstedt and Arlene Howell, brother-in-law Gordon Howell, a nephew Patrick Howell, and great- grandnephew Aaiden Small-Lawson.

She leaves behind her son Lee (Joyce) Kingsolver of Red Oak, grandsons Brian and Randy Kingsolver of Shenandoah, one step son Ronald (Millie) Kingsolver of Shenandoah, sister Betty Hafey of Azusa, CA, eleven nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews.
