Obituary

Joan Christine Herron, daughter of Ralph E. and Jeannine R. (Marsac) Ellis, was born on November 14, 1953 in Red Oak, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska following an extended illness at the age of 57.
Her early life was spent growing up in various communities around Southwest Iowa. Joan graduated from Essex High School in Essex, Iowa with the Class of 1971.
On December 31, 1980, Joan was united in marriage to Glenn L. Herron in Shenandoah, Iowa. Following their marriage they resided in the Farragut and Shenandoah area.
Joan worked for Eaton Corporation at their Shenandoah plant during the 1970's. She later worked in the health care field. In 1998, Joan graduated from the Iowa Western Community College Nursing Program in Clarinda, Iowa. Upon graduation, she worked in Clarinda for Home Health. She last worked at the County Home before retiring due to her failing health.
In her spare time Joan liked to read, sew, make quilts, work on crafts and listen to music. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family and friends. She also loved spending time and caring for her pets.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Jack Ellis and sister, Janet McDermott. Survivors include her loving husband, Glenn L. Herron of Shenandoah; two daughters, Jamie McCue of Shenandoah and Jacque Graves and her husband Gary of Council Bluffs, IA; two sons, James R. (Jimmy) Herron and his girlfriend Courtney and Jeremy Herron, all of Shenandoah; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Megan and Chloe Graves, all of Council Bluffs and Emma Smith of Red Oak, IA. Also surviving is her brother, Jerry Ellis of Red Oak, IA; mother-in-law, Thelma Herron of Farragut, IA; other relatives and many friends.
