Dr. Jerry G. Schaaf, 80, of Kansas City, MO, died July 11, 2022. He was born in Lincoln, NE, on September 16, 1941. He attended Lincoln Independent Study High School at the University of Nebraska. Jerry remained at the University of Nebraska, at Lincoln, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1964. He worked as a Registered Pharmacist for Gilmore Danielson Drug Company in Lincoln while continuing his education at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine-Omaha. He received his M.D. in Medicine in 1969; followed by an Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center-Omaha, ending July 1972.

At that time in 1972, Jerry opened a private medical practice in Shenandoah/Farragut, IA. After 24 years in private practice, Jerry joined the University of Nebraska Medical Center Outpatient Clinics-Shenandoah, in 1996, as Staff Physician until 2010. From 2007 to 2012 Jerry served as Chief Medical Officer of the Shenandoah Medical Center until retirement when he moved to Kansas City to live full time on his 5-acre retreat, Avalon Oaks. There, he surrounded himself with the things he loved: dogs, books, art, food, and friends.

After over 40 years in medicine, Jerry is remembered as a conscientious provider who truly cared about his patients. He was a supporter of several charities and the arts, a proud member of Alpha Omega Alpha, and a lover of all creatures great and small. He is preceded in death by his mother Helen Agnes (Peterson), father George Schaaf, and his beloved sister Jeannette Eileen Schaaf, whom he called Jeanne. He is survived at home by his life partner Patrick Thompson and the many friends and patients whose lives he enriched.

A Memorial Service will be held at Hackett Livingston Funeral Home, Shenandoah, IA at 11 AM, September 16, 2022. Memories and stories of Jerry welcome. Consider remembering Dr. Schaaf by contributing to the Shenandoah Public Library. Interment of cremains will be at Lincoln Memorial Park, Lincoln NE.
