Janet Lynn (Osburn) Gsell was born on July 22, 1946 in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Doris (Young) Osburn. Janet entered into the arms of her Lord on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Janet's early life was spent in the Clarinda, Iowa community. She attended school at Bridgewater Fontenelle, Clarinda Schools and Shenandoah High School. On February 14, 1963 she was united in marriage to Gary Gsell in the Clarinda Baptist Church. During their married life, they resided in Shenandoah, Iowa and Norfolk, Nebraska before finally settling in Sidney, Iowa. On February 14th, 2013 Gary and Janet would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Janet held various positions during her working years including those with Henry Fields, Brannen Super Value, Hy-Vee, Tyler Bottling, Mid Continent Bottlers and she also drove a school bus. Janet retired in 2004 due to blindness which was brought on by her diabetes. Some of her hobbies before her blindness included ceramics, bowling and watching television, especially Nebraska Cornhusker football games. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Janet had a strong faith and enjoyed attending church.

She was a member of the Victory Life Christian Church, past president of the Jaycee's, served on the Boy Scout District Committee and was a Cub Scout leader. Her support of scouting earned her numerous awards including the prestigious Silver Beaver Award and the District Award of Merit.

She was preceded in death by her mother Doris Swanson. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Gary Gsell of Sidney; daughter Darla Moreland and husband Randy of Sidney; son Terry Gsell of New York, NY; father Robert Osburn of Bedford; step-father John Swanson of Des Moines; brother Jerry Osburn and wife Sue of Panora; step-sister Sandy Iverson and husband Bruce of Council Bluffs; half brother John T. Swanson and wife Sandy of Des Moines; grandsons Drew Moreland and wife Alissa of Maryville and Dustin Moreland and wife Toni of Randolph; great-grandchildren Braxie, Nash and Deegan Moreland; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
