James Allen Blane, son of John F. and Essie (McIntosh) Blane, was born on January 16, 1949 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the Shenandoah Medical Center.

Jim was born and raised in Shenandoah. Following high school he attended Ellsworth Junior College on a football scholarship. He also attended Tarkio Community College before returning to Shenandoah to work at his father's restaurant, The Waldorf Caf, which he eventually owned and operated. Several years later he sold the caf and went to Eaton Corporation where he remained for 31 years.

Jim always loved sports, especially football and baseball. he was a great competitor in high school. He coached Little League traveling baseball teams for several years when his boys were young, and loved watching them play sports as they grew up. Jim enjoyed his grandchildren, always keeping them supplied with cookies and pickle cubes.

Jim loved to cook and was especially known for his pan-fried chicken, homemade salsa and chips, pickles, and deer jerky. Jim always planted a huge garden and enjoyed canning and sharing with family, friends, and neighbors. Jim was an avid hunter and enjoyed taking his dog, Maggie for rides everyday.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents, John and Essie Blane; a brother, John Jr; and sister, Sheryl Maher.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Susan, sons Nathan Blane, Hopkins, Mo., and Bennett (Nicki) Blane, Shenandoah. Grandchildren, Lily, Michael, and Addison Blane. Brothers-in-law Steve Maher and his children Chris (Vicki) Maher, Kerri (Craig) Younggren, and Matt Maher; Denny Gray and his children Jeff and Scott Gray; and sister-in-law Sandi Cox. Jim is also survived by other relatives, friends, and his annual deer hunting group who will miss him dearly, as well as his faithful dog Maggie who will miss her daily rides.

Celebration of life funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, December 11, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah.

Memorials are being established.

Burial will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
