Jacqualine (Jackie) Jean (Androy) Holmes was born at home on March 18, 1929 in Shenandoah, Iowa to Joseph Francis and Goldie Maude (Meyers) Androy. Jackie's arrival was a surprise to the new parents as she arrived just minutes after her identical twin sister Jo Ann (Jody) Maxine (Androy) Braymen.

The twin sisters greatly enjoyed each other's company and were nearly inseparable. Growing up the girls used their uncanny likeness to their advantage to switch places and play practical jokes on boyfriends, teachers and other unsuspecting victims. They spent their entire youth in Shenandoah and attended Shenandoah Community Schools where they proudly led the Shenandoah High School marching band as drum majors in matching uniforms. The sisters had many instances of twin ESP and would often send each other the same birthday card, purchase the same article of clothing and in once instance each sign the other up for clown school. Jackie and Jody loved clowning around together at parades, the Special Olympics and birthday parties.

After graduating high school, the twins completed 12 hours of teacher education courses at Northwest College in Maryville, Missouri and began their teaching careers at the same time. Jackie at Lone Rock Country School and Jody at Science Ridge – both located outside Shenandoah. Jackie taught at Lone Rock for five years, then at Norwich for one year before country schools closed and students began being bussed into town.

In 1947, and at the start of their teaching careers, the sisters attended a local dance where Jackie met Marlin Holmes, a young man who had just returned home from Japan after serving in the occupation at the end of WWII. After a few double dates and "losing" a coin toss, Jackie and Marlin were united in marriage at the First Christian Church in Shenandoah, Iowa on June 12, 1949.

After getting married and while teaching county school, Jackie spent her summers working at the Henry Field Seed House and picking up as many college credits as she could afford. Her hard work and dedication resulted in a bachelor's degree in education that led her to become one of the first special needs educators in southwest Iowa. Over the course 36 years Jackie educated and advocated for hundreds of young people, played hard-ball with administrators, spoke passionately about education to numerous civic and service groups, was recognized as Teacher of the Year by Shenandoah Community Schools and also by the state of Iowa for her innovative teaching techniques. She would later continue her education and earn a Double Master's in Education Administration and Special Education from Northwest Missouri State.

Jackie and Marlin welcomed their only child, a daughter named Marlene on March 6, 1955. Jackie was a devoted mother to Marlene and spent hours helping with girl scouts, The International Order of Rainbow Girls, 4-H and various other school and church activities. Outside of school hours and the duties of motherhood, Jackie kept busy assisting Marlin with his newly established construction business. In the early 1970s Marlin started construction on what would be the first of six apartment buildings that ultimately comprised Holmes Apartments. Jackie managed the apartments and cared for their tenants who became like family for over 50 years.

In the 1980s three grandchildren entered Jackie's life and she couldn't have been prouder to be their grandmother. Two great grandchildren came along by the mid-2000s and to say she was over the moon was an understatement – she treasured the time that she spent with them.

Jacqualine was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Marlin Holmes, parents Joseph and Goldie Androy, twin sister Jo Ann (Kenneth) Braymen and brother Jim (Joanna) Androy. She is survived by her only daughter Marlene (Holmes) Bashaw and son-in-law Joel of Shenandoah. Three grandchildren; Elizabeth Bashaw of Omaha, Heidi (Bashaw) Eide and husband Eric of Omaha, and Todd Bashaw of Shenandoah. Two great-grandchildren; Grayson and Hattie Eide of Omaha as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and countless other extended family members, friends, former co-workers, tenants and students.
