Obituary

Ivan Dale Funk was born on September 26, 1923 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Floyd "Jack" and Fairrell (Ingram) Funk. Ivan entered into eternal peace on April 17, 2012 at Bergen Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Ivan spent his entire life in the community of Shenandoah. He graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1941. In January of 1943 enlisted in the United States Air Force, he later received an honorable discharge.
On December 28, 1947 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Bradley at the Presbyterian Church in Shenandoah. During his working days Ivan was employed by Townsend Wholesale, Central Surveys, and Farmaster. He and Phyllis along with Melinda and Eldon owned and operated Funk's 66/ Funk-Kirby Oil. Inc. Ivan enjoyed working with the public and visiting with the customers. He was known by many of his friends as "Pinky", a nickname given to him by his uncle.
Ivan was a member of the American Legion, the Jaycee's and the Presbyterian Church. He loved to travel, play golf and spending time with his children and grandchildren, brought him much joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert and Jack; and a sister Shirley Young. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Funk; daughters Melinda Kirby and husband Eldon and Lori Smith and husband Dan; grandchildren Brett Kirby and Valerie, Erin Taylor and husband Jon and Amanda Smith; great-granddaughters Madison and Braelynn Kirby; sisters Phyllis Funk and Patsy Gilliam; brother Rex Funk and wife Barb; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
