Isabella Marian Hanzlick, daughter of James A. and Minnie B. (Bornhorst) Harris, was born on June 20, 1918, one of four children. She passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at her home in Shenandoah at 708 W. Thomas Ave., where she had been a resident since November of 1998.

She received her education in the Marshall County, Kansas Schools. On April 6, 1937, Isabella was united in marriage to George Hanzlick in St. Gregory's Church at Marysville, Kansas. They were blessed with three children, Shirley, James and Denise. In 1941, they moved to Iowa. George was a businessman in the area for over 54 years. Isabella was an employee of Earl May Seed & Nursery for over 34 years. She started as a clerk in the retail store and later in the mail order department. For many years she was a tour guide for both locations of the trial grounds.
Following her retirement she volunteered much of her time to the Garden View and Elm Heights Care Centers in Shenandoah as well as many other places. She loved to look after and take care of people. Isabella, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah, was very devoted to her faith. She attended mass daily, sang in the church choir and was a member of St. Mary's Altar Guild. In addition, she serve as a eucharistic minister. Nurturing family and friends, music, playing the piano, singing, cooking, baking and gardening were some of the activities she enjoyed the most. A stickler for attention to the details, Isabella will be remembered as a meticulous person. She was also a member of the Tomorrow Club of Essex for over 50 years.

Preceding Isabella in death were her parents; husband George; their son, Jim; their daughter Shirley Archer; and their grandson, Justin Hanzlick; her brother, Bill Harris and her sister, Lucille Schmitz. Survivors include her daughter, Denise Morrison and her husband Stephen of Omaha, NE, and son-in-law, Col. James B. Archer Ret. of Plano, TX; grandchildren, James Archer and wife Gail of Golden, CO, Dr. Joseph Archer and wife Janine of Denham Springs, LA, Steven Archer and wife Audra of Dallas, TX, Heather Hanzlick-Jaacks and husband Rick of Stewartsville, MN, Keri Hanzlick-Champine and husband Justin of Milford, IA, and Julie, Robert and Stephanie Morrison of Omaha,NE; great grandchildren, Blaine and Samantha Archer of Golden, CO, Alexis and Ainsley Archer of Denham Springs, LA, and Rylan Archer of Dallas, TX; brother, Art Harris of Topeka, KS; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah. Celebrants were Rev. Vern Smith, Rev. Donald Bruck and Rev. Anthony Adibe. Altar servers were Lance Mattice and Austin Feller. Lector was Blaine Maher. Readings were by James B. Archer, II and Bob Morrison. Special music was by the St. Mary's Choir and the duet of Sue and Tommy Hanna. Organist was Mary Beth Gowing. Attending the memory register was Mary Hodapp, Laline Maher, Mary Lightfoot and Elaine Dinville. Ushers were Bob Larson and Bob Stanbrough. Gift bearers were Keri Hanzlick-Champine, Heather Hanzlick-Jaacks, Julie Morrison, Stephanie Morrison and Samantha Archer. Honorary casket bearers were the member of St. Mary's Choir, St. Mary's Renew Group, Marvin and Darlen Feller, Jerry and Mary Jo Josephson, Buddy Jorgensen, Joseph R. Archer, Tom and Sue Hanna and Mike and Shari Teachout. Casket bearers were James B. Archer II, Steven T. Archer, James B. Archer, III, Robert S. Morrison, Richard L. Hanzlick-Jaacks, Justin L. Champine and Kyle S. Kyllo. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. A memorial is being established in Isabella's name. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
