Ione Spargur's Obituary
Ione Elizabeth Pursell Spargur was born on May 2, 1907 south of Westboro, Missouri, the daughter of James Corbin and Jessie Lorena (Williamson) Pursell. Ione entered into eternal peace on Monday, December 6, 2010 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa, at the blessed age of 103.
Ione's early years were spent in Westboro where she attended school through the 7th grade. The family then moved to Shenandoah. Ione continued her education and graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1924.
On January 5, 1925 she was united in marriage to Harry Jennings Spargur in Shenandoah, Iowa. The couple resided on North Webster for a short time, before making their permanent residence at 200 University Ave in Shenandoah where she resided until her passing.
Ione worked at the Millinery Store and for Henry Field and Seed Company for a short time. Her main duties revolved around tending to her family and making sure that their needs were taken care of.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women, a 91 year member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Royal Neighbors. Ione enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, quilting, crocheting, making doilies and table runners for family and friends. She was very talented with her hands and had quite the eye for tackling new projects. Ione loved to visit and had the gift of gab. She enjoyed long conversations with family and friends. She was blessed by the many special friends and neighbors who made it possible for her to remain in her home until her final days.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son and daughter-in-law Lloyd E. Spargur and Shirley Spargur.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son LeRoy Spargur and wife L. Elaine of Shenandoah; step-grandson Ramon Henderson of North Carolina; granddaughters Sheryl Frye and Connie Linville both of Overland Park, KS; grandsons Vincent Spargur and Jay Spargur both of Overland Park, KS; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; 4 great-great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
