Obituary

Ila Sue "Susie" Long Myers, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away at St. Luke's hospital on July 30, 2013, after a long illness.

Ila was born on June 2, 1931 in Coin, Iowa, the daughter of Russell and Myrtle (Stump) Long. Ila grew up in southwest Iowa. She attended Coin High School, graduating in 1949. Ila was united in marriage to Herbert Eugene "Gene" Myers at Bentonville, Arkansas on November 5, 1949. After their marriage they lived in Coin, Iowa. In 1957 Gene was transferred to Doon, Iowa, with the agronomy department of Iowa State University. They resided in Doon until Gene's retirement in 1991. They then moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa where Ila lived until she recently moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to reside with her daughter, Glenda.

Ila was a homemaker who dearly loved her family. During her life she also worked for Henry Field's Seed & Nursery and Otis Radio. She was a pioneer Interior Designer. She enjoyed refinishing and reupholstering furniture, making drapes, and decorating homes. She made floral arrangements and enjoyed counted cross stitch.

She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Schouten of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Lori Myers of Brandon, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Katy Schouten (Rick Mehmen) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Nathan (Kristina) Myers of Brandon, South Dakota, Tim (Summer) Myers of Baltic, South Dakota; four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Chantel and baby Myers of Brandon, South Dakota; and Sophia Myers of Baltic, South Dakota; three step-great-grandchildren, Nicole Fuson, Jacob Fuson, and Sabrina Thomas of Baltic, South Dakota; an aunt, Joyce Adams of Shenandoah, Iowa, brother-in-law, Robert E. Bain, Sr. of Rockwood, Tennessee; special friend, Bill Jones of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and her special granddog, Maggie, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ila was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Myrtle; her husband, Herbert "Gene"; two sons, Glenn and an infant son; two sisters, Betta Lea Bain and Margaret "Joan" Myers, and a brother-in-law, Bernard Myers.
