Honor Elizabeth McLaren, daughter of James Blockley and Margaret Louise (Cole) Scott, was born on November 22, 1918 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 surrounded by her loving family at the Shenandoah Medical Center following a brief illness.
Her early life was spent in Philadelphia. Her family later moved to Chicago, Illinois were she attended the Chicago Public Schools. On January 15, 1944 Honor was united in marriage to the love of her life, John McLaren, in Chicago. Following their marriage they made their home in Belvidere, Illinois. Honor worked for awhile as a secretary in Chicago until becoming a full-time homemaker to her husband, John and two sons, Ian and Rob. The family eventually moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, where John worked with Lake's Nurseries.
She was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Shenandoah. Honor loved her Scottish Terrier dogs. She also enjoyed bird watching and a keen interest in lighthouses. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family as her family was her greatest joy and treasure.
Preceding Honor in death were her parents; brother, Peter Scott; two brothers-in-law, Hank Herula and Jim Gillono; sister-in-law, Grace McLaren; daughter-in-law, Valerie Smith McLaren; and a nephew, Jimmy Herula.
Survivors include her loving husband, John McLaren of Shenandoah; two sons, Ian McLaren and wife Beverly of Shenandoah and Rob McLaren and special friend Diana of Farragut; four grandchildren, Danielle Hoover and husband Joe of Albia, IA, Antonio Alvarez and wife Raelle of Mount Sterling, KY, Laure Dupin-Alary and husband Olivier of Marthod, France and Maria Skog of Vantaa, Finland; four great grandchildren, Zachary Louis Hoover, Deandre Nicholas Alvarez, Pauline Anne Alary and Arthur Joseph Alary; sister, Margaret Herula of Chicago, IL; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Scott and Christine Gillono, both of Chicago, IL; brother-in-law, Bill McLaren of Ripon, WI; and sister and brother-in-law, Alison and Denny McMillan of Ivins, UT; granddogs Dakota, Morgan, Woody, Sadie and Ferguson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
