Helen Louise Sickman, was born on September 1, 1930 at the family farm in Fremont, County, Iowa and entered into eternal rest at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa on Saturday, August 6, 2016 , at the age of 85 years, 11 months , 5 days. Helen was the daughter of Henry and Katherine (Laumann) Sickman, she was the third child of four to this marriage.
Her mother died when Helen was 6 years old. She attended Hillsdale rural school through the 8th grade. Then granting her father's wishes, she stayed with him on the farm, instead of attending high school. She kept house, raised chickens and a big garden, plus chores that would come up on the farm.
When her father died in 1981, she bought a car, and a home at 507 South Avenue in Shenandoah and went to work in the kitchen at the American Legion Country Club, working their until it changed management.

She volunteered for many years at Garden View Care Center helping in any way she could. Helen enjoyed yard work and raising flowers, painting, craft work, going to household sales collecting those items that she would enjoy. She was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church, being confirmed in 1943, the first confirmation class in the new church.

In 1991 Helen's health began to fail and on July 2, 2003 she entered Garden View Care Center where she would live the remainder of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wilbur and his wife Helen, Walter and his wife Garnet, and a sister, Wilma ( Mrs. Richard Youngberg).

Survivors include, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Celebration of life funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Westboro, Missouri.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Westboro, Missouri.

Burial will be held at the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the St. John's Lutheran Church or St. Jude's Hospital.
