Harold Manford Kenyon was born on June 7, 1918 in Crawford County, Deloit, Iowa, to Iris Rounds Kenyon and Oren H. Kenyon. Like all parents, Harold's Mom and Dad thought he was the most beautiful baby ever, but this was proven to them when at the age of six months, Harold was entered in a baby contest and won!

Harold was the oldest of six children. He would be joined by four sisters, Lucille, Emogene, Bonnie, Arley, and one brother, Eugene.
Harold attended the Deloit, Iowa Community School where he was especially active in sports. He participated in basketball, baseball, and track. He won many medals for his athletic abilities, including breaking the school record for the 100 yard dash. He graduated from high school in 1937.
Harold was an active member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, now known as the Community of Christ. He was baptized in 1929 at the age of 11. He served in the priesthood as both a teacher and a priest. He took an active part in worship services and church activities all his life.

Harold was proud to serve his country during World War II, and he frequently shared a testimony of God's watch care for him during that time.
He worked for the Des Moines Register and Tribune as Circulation Manager and was transferred to Shenandoah in 1956. That proved to be a very important, special year in Harold's life because he married Carol Richter on December 6th of that year.
The following year Carol and Harold adopted a five day old baby girl who they named Cheri Kae. To quote Harold, "Getting Cheri was the most wonderful experience. Cheri made our home complete. She brought us so much joy and happiness." On Harold's 80th birthday she made Harold's birthday complete with these words on his card: "I didn't choose you for a Dad, but if I could have, I would have. Love, Cheri"
Following his employment with the Des Moines Register and Tribune, Harold sold insurance in Shenandoah and the surrounding area until his retirement in 1981.
Harold was known for his sociability and friendliness. He always went for coffee every morning to share stories with his friends - not just to one establishment, but to several. He was a strong supporter of local sports, and he and Carol could always be seen at football games, basketball games, and other school activities.
Harold is survived by his wife, Carol, his daughter Cheri Kenyon and friend Diane Paull of Florida, one sister Arley Goodwin of Colorado, one sister-in-law, Phyllis Kenyon of Nebraska, nine nieces, eight nephews, and countless close family friends. Harold's life touched many lives, and he leaves a rich legacy of dedication to his family, his church, and his friends

Memorial Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday; November 5, 2008 at the Shenandoah Community of Christ Church with David Harrington presiding. Charlotte Carper and Joan Irvin attended the memorial registers while Donna Munsinger and Judy Meyer cared for the floral arrangements. Serving as ushers were Tammie Stettler and Cindy Novinger. The urn was brought forth by the Ron Knight Family. The Rick Morrison Family sang "Sweet, Sweet Spirit", "Friends" and "Come To Jesus" while being accompanied by Carla Crosser-Harrington. Special readings for the service included "To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me", which was read by Judy Bogen and "I'm Free" which was read by Linda Rounds. The service concluded with Mary Maher offering the Benediction and the Blessing of the Meal. Inurnment followed at the Rose Hill Cemetery with the American Legion Post #88 presenting the flag and offering Taps. Memorials were suggested to the Shenandoah Community of Christ Church.
