Harold Hansen longtime Shenandoah businessman passed away at the Ambassador Care Center in Nebraska City, Nebraska on Saturday, July 17, 2010. In lue of flowers memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Shenandoah Public Library.

Harold Hansen, the child of Hans and Luella Byron Hansen was born in Gladbrook, Iowa on November 20,1922 and passed away on July 17, 2010 in Nebraska City, Nebraska at the age of 87.
Harold spent his youth in Gladbrook where he graduated high school in 1940.
In 1941, at the age of 20, he was drafted into the Army after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He shipped out of New York City and passing through the Panama Canal and served until the end of the war in the South Pacific and Australia.
After returning from active service, he attended watch making school in Kansas City, becoming a watch repairman in Mason City and Gladbrook after receiving his license.
In 1957, Harold, his wife Donna and their sons Gordon and Tony moved to Shenandoah and purchased "Modern Jewelry." In the fall of 1969, he purchased "Ross Jewelry" from the Tom Ross estate. In 1970, Harold and Donna closed "Modern Jewelry" and renamed the new business, "Hansen Jewelers."
Upon retirement from the jewelry business, Harold and Donna loved dining with friends in area restaurants, spending time with relatives, socializing with many friends and visiting area attractions. Harold was known for his sense of style, humor, smile, gentleness and grace. In particular, Harold loved the tranquility that came with the surroundings he designed into his home and yard.
Preceding Harold in death were his parents Hans and Luella of Gladbrook and his wife Donna. His survivors include his sons Gordon and wife Aurora, Tony and wife Christina. Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Erik and Kirk, Laura and Kevin, a host of friends and relatives.
