Obituary

Glen Melvin Asklof, son of Swedish immigrants, C.A. and Hulda O. (Edstrom) Asklof, was born on March 21, 1916, on the family farm in Frankfort Township, Montogomery County, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, February 27, 2006, at the Montgomery County Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 89. He was baptized at home in Montgomery County, Iowa. He was confirmed at Tabor Lutheran Church in Wallin, Iowa where he was an active member and served as Sunday School Superintendent. Glen was proud of his Swedish heritage.
He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Villisca High School with the Class of 1933. Following graduation he farmed in the Stanton and Villisca area. On October 6, 1944, Glen was united in marriage to LaDonna Mae Ruth at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa. To this union were born three daughters and one son. He was employed by the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company and Nyman Electric in Stanton until 1965, they moved to Essex and he became manager of the Farmers Telephone Company. He retired in 1981.
Preceding Glen in death were his parents; three sisters; four brothers and one grandson, Marc Creger. Survivors include his wife LaDonna Asklof of Essex, IA.; three daughters, Rita Oberg and husband Dave of Shenandoah, IA., Ruth Fridolfson and husband Lyle of Somers, IA., Linda Wolfe and husband John of Shenandoah, IA.; one son Gene Asklof and wife Desi of Ames, IA.; ten grandsons, Lane and Brandi Oberg of Layton, UT., Eric and Dawn Oberg of Valparaiso, IN., Jeffrey and Stacy Creger of Northwood, IA., Grant Creger and fiance' Andrea Hansen of Perry, IA., Matthew and Mandy Creger of Ft. Dodge, IA., Mike Creger of Covington, GA., James Wolfe of Omaha, NE., Joseph Wolfe of Shenandoah, IA., and Geoffrey Asklof and Ryan Asklof of Ames, IA., one great granddaughter and seven great grandsons; one brother, Helmer Asklof of Villisca, IA.; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 3, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by Pastor John Swenson. Interment was in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Nyman, Iowa.
