Geraldine Mary Laughlin, daughter of Edward Francis and Mary Elizabeth (Maher) Laughlin, was born June 22, 1926 in Imogene, Iowa. She passed away Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 88.
Geraldine grew up on a farm northeast of Imogene until moving to Shenandoah in 1975. She attended Union country School and St. Patrick's Catholic School, graduating in 1943. She received her degree from Peru State College. She began teaching elementary school in 1944. She taught at Keystone, Morning Star and Goff country schools. She also taught at Imogene and Henderson public schools. She was also employed by Mount Arbor Nurseries and George Jay Drug, Co.
Geraldine was a member of St. Patrick's Altar Society and Business and Professional Women.
Geraldine enjoyed shopping, playing cards, polka music, attending ballgames and concerts of her great nieces and nephews, house plants and baking. She was known for her pies, cookies, and pancakes.
Geraldine was preceded in death by parents Edward Francis Laughlin and Mary Elizabeth Laughlin, brother Vincent, sisters, Louise Laughlin, Geraldine M. Viner, brother-in-law Edward Lewis, nephews Vincent Gerard and John Laughlin and his wife Lanna, great nephew John Shough.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Helen Lewis of Shenandoah, IA; brother, Edward Laughlin and wife Darlene of Imogene, IA; nieces and nephews, Vicki Kelly of Shenandoah, IA, Mary Laughlin of Moses Lake, WA, Dale Lewis of Coralville, IA, Jim Laughlin and wife Kim of Red Oak, IA, Janet Shough and husband Mike of Farragut, IA, Jeff Laughlin and wife Shalee of Imogene, IA, Connie Blank and husband Lloyd of Emerson, IA and Brenda Pace and husband Larry of Treynor, IA; other relatives and many friends.
Burial will be held at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Imogene, Iowa.
