Gerald Jesse Stanbrough, son of Jesse and Fern (Swanson) Stanbrough, was born on June 13, 1940 at Red Oak, Iowa. He entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 7 days.

"Jerry" grew up in rural Essex and attended Goldenrod country school and later the Essex Community Schools. He graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1959.

On September 10, 1960, Jerry and Mary Kathryn Bose were united in marriage at the Presbyterian Church in Essex. Following their marriage they made their home in Essex and raised three children, Kim, Pat and Dee.

Over the years, Jerry worked at Johnson Brothers Mill in Essex, Union Carbide in Red Oak, Van Buskirk Grain in Shenandoah, American Concrete in Shenandoah and the Essex Elevator. Jerry was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex. He was also a volunteer fireman for many years for the Essex Fire Department. In addition, he was a member of the Shenandoah National Guard unit for several years.

Jerry enjoyed camping, gardening, working in his shop and garage, grilling and cruising the town of Essex. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Preceding Jerry in death were his mother, Fern Stanbrough; father and step-mother, Jess and Thelma Stanbrough; mother and father-in-law, Slim and Mary Bose; brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Gerri Morrison; brother-in-laws, Junior, Jackie and Richard Bose; and several nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his wife Kathy Stanbrough of Essex; two sons, Kim Stanbrough of Omaha, NE and Pat Stanbrough and wife Karen of Shenandoah; daughter, Dee Davis and husband Rob of Seymour, IN; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Kassidy, Spencer, Kylie and Hannah Stanbrough and Alex and Rory Davis; two great grandchildren, Skyler and Kylynn Stanbrough; brother, Bob Stanbrough and wife Bernadette of Essex; five sisters, Elaine Woodyard and husband George of De Land, FL, Maxine Crouse and husband Bob of Red Oak, Donna Currie, Beverly McGargill and husband Luke and Karen Ahrens and husband Bob, all of Shenandoah; brother and sister-in-laws, Bob Bose, Cheryl Bose and Norma Bose; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Kim Stanbrough and Heather Swendroski; other relatives and many dear friends.

Inurnment will be in the Essex Cemetery. Memorials are being directed to Essex Fire & Rescue or St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex in Jerry's name.
