Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Anthony Joseph Head, 81, Imogene, Iowa, was born on August 11, 1933, at the old Hamburg hospital to Helen (Maher) and Anthony "Tony" Head. He passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015, at Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska. He was raised on the family farm 2 miles south and west of Imogene. He received the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, First Confession, Confirmation (from Bishop Edward C. Daly, 1948-1964), and the Sacrament of Marriage at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Imogene.

Jerry received all 12 years of his education at St. Patrick Academy, Imogene, from the Dominican Sisters, graduating in 1951.

Jerry was married at St. Patrick Church, Imogene, to Patricia L. Maher on February 17, 1953, by Father Francis Doyle. To this union seven (7) children were born.

Jerry served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He farmed all his life near Imogene.

Jerry served on St. Patrick Church Council, as well as several Fremont County offices, and the Farragut School Board. He joined the Knights of Columbus (KCs) in February 1953.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Ryan K. Skalberg.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia L. (Maher); his children: Gerald James "Jim" (Becky) Head, Randolph, Iowa; Dianne V. Head, Council Bluffs; Connie M. (Leslie) Skalberg, Red Oak; Christie A. Ford, Imogene; Larry M. Head, Imogene; Lori K. (Fred) Bruce, Red Oak; Paul J. Head (Shelly Hopp), Imogene; 15 grandchildren: Craig (Shari) Head, Stacie (Todd) Jones, Clint (Andria) Head, Tiffany (Doug) Lyons, Curtis Head; Jeff Skalberg and Ryanne Skalberg; Andy Ford, Adam (Helen) Ford, James Ford and Michael Ford; Anthony (Emily) Head and Amy Head; Sara (Luke) Dailey and Beth (Caleb) Rehbein; 13 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Brooklyn, Colton Head; Alice, Samuel, Vincent Jones; Jordan and Sydney Head; Jada, Dane, Trey Lyons; Max Dailey; Ellie Ford; his brother Dan (Betty) Head, Eureka Springs, Arkansas; nieces and nephews; many relatives and friends.

Burial will be held at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Imogene with military rites provided by American Legion Post 88 of Shenandoah.
