George E. McCall was born on March 15, 1931; the son of Marion and Ruth (Stafford) McCall in Hamburg, Iowa. George passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 9 days.
George worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation from 1954 until his retirement in 1992, after 38 years of dedicated service. He was also a 15 year member of the Army National Guard.
George was a beloved father and grandfather. He enjoyed having coffee with his buddies and passing the time visiting.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Teresa McCall and his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Barbara Andrews of Las Cruces, New Mexico; grandchildren Joshua Wellborn of Omaha, Nebraska and Melanie Wellborn of Las Cruces, New Mexico; great-grandchildren Addison Schilling of Shenandoah, Iowa, Dylan Wellborn and Katelyn Wellborn-Saiz of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Kylie Wellborn of Omaha, Nebraska; other family and a host of friends.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home with Rev. Karen Bash officiating. Sharing special memories of their grandfather were Melanie and Joshua Wellborn. Carmen Harms assisted with the memorial register. Special music for the service included recordings of "In The Garden", "Amazing Grace" and "Because He Lives". Serving as casket bearers were Greg Richardson, Rusty Linthicum, Mike Bartles, Terry Stafford, Russell Fithen and Joshua Wellborn. Stephen Wellborn served as a honorary casket bearer. Interment followed at the Rose Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88. The ladies of the First Christian Church served a luncheon for the family following the services.
