George Graydon Hays was born on April 2, 1922 at the family home in Hamburg, Iowa, the son of Oscar Leroy and Minnie Marie (Mattes) Hays. Graydon entered into eternal peace on December 30, 2009 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Graydon's early years were spent in Hamburg, until 1931. The family then moved to the Locust Grove Township where he resided until moving to Garden View in July of 2008. Graydon graduated from the Farragut Community Schools with the Class of 1939. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Air Forces, where he served his country with pride, until his Honorable Discharge in 1945.
On October 6, 1963, Graydon was united in marriage to his beloved Virginia Lee Christensen at St. Mark's Methodist Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple made their home on the family farm in the Locust Grove Township. Graydon worked the land with determination until retiring at the age of 70.
Some of his hobbies included gardening, making apple cider, reading, writing, playing cribbage, visiting with friends, and enjoying special moments with this grandchildren. Graydon was also a loyal member of the Locust Grove United Methodist Church.
He was welcomed into heaven on that early Tuesday morning by his faithful companion Virginia, his parents Oscar and Minnie, a brother Willard Hays, and a sister Nina Osborne.
Those left to honor his memory include his children Beth Towne and husband Bill and Doug Hays and wife Barb both of Farragut, IA and John Hays and wife Ramona of Council Bluffs, IA; sister-in-law Alice Knott of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren Nathan, Natalie, Audrey, Courtney, Erin, and Brooke; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
