Gary Eldon Glines, son of Betty Jean Barragar and step son of Earl Erickson, was born on July 14, 1944 in Clarinda, Iowa. He entered into rest on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the Shenandoah Medical Center in Shenandoah.
Gary at a young age moved to a part of Clarinda called "Guntown." This area of Clarinda got its name from, Yes... gun slinging! Back in the day cowboys and farmers would bring their cattle down Garfield Street, to the stockyards for selling. The area of town grew into saloons, gun fighting broke out often. This became the dangerous part of the Clarinda community and citizens should stay clear of. Gary was very proud of where he came from.
Gary was united in marriage to Jonna Rhea Fithen on July 6, 1962. To this union three girls were born Kelli Rachelle, Kandi Ann and Kathi Yvonne. On May 24, 2004 Jonna Rhea entered into rest. On March 5, 2005, Gary was united in marriage to Sharon Hogue in Tarkio, Missouri. He became a step-father to four boys Derek, Mark, Chris and Tim.
Gary was educated in the Clarinda School System leaving to help support his siblings in the 10th grade. He did several different jobs after leaving school. His first job was at the Clarinda Bowling alley setting up pins for a cent a pin. In 1964 he was hired by the city of Shenandoah, retiring from the water department in 2004 after 40 years of service to the community. After retirement he enjoyed helping people by doing odd jobs. Gary was a Shenandoah Volunteer Fireman for 20 years which he enjoyed very much.
Gary enjoyed vacationing, camping, hunting, fishing, but true enjoyment was woodworking. He loved to watch his grandchildren in their many sporting events. He loved his family and friends whenever and wherever he was. He enjoyed his retirement being a "snowbird", spending part of the year in Arizona with Sharon, friends and family.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother Betty Jean Erickson, step father Earl Erickson, first wife Jonna Rhea Fithen Glines and brother Ronald Glines.
