Freda Evelyn Washburn, daughter of Hillman Everett Walter and Jessie Marie Cartwright Walter, was born March 1, 1922 at Presbyterian Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska and entered into rest at her home in Ames, Iowa at the age of 85 years 10 months and 8 days.

In 1941 she was united in marriage with Charlie Riggle. To this union 2 children were born.

In 1948 she was united in marriage with Wilbur Wayne Washburn in the home of a local minister. To this union of 51 years 1 child was born.

Freda lived on a farm most of her life and worked cleaning houses.

She loved family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.and watching television. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing, cooking, collecting postcards and owls, and watching television. In her later years she took up doing find-a-word puzzles, reading about and collecting angels, and her faith.

Freda is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Melba, her brother Ivan, her husband Wayne, her sister-in-law Carleta, and her brothers-in-law Russell and Garland.

She is survived by her three children, Hillman Walter and his wife Georgia of Porto Velho, Brazil, Hylton Walter and his wife Kim of Shenandoah, Sherry Washburn of Ames, her grandchildren Ronald Wallace, Sherry Palmer, Jessica Placek and her husband Jason, Carol Barr and her husband Kevin, Hylton J. Walter, great grandchildren Chase Wallace, Tiffany Wallace, Brissa Placek, Anthony Palmer, Brittany Placek, Matthew Barr, Makayla Placek, and Zoe Placek.

Graveside Services were held on Saturday, January 19, 2008 from Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa at 10:00 a.m. Words of Comfort were given by Rev. Tim Vann. Casket Bearers were Matthew Barr, Kevin Barr, Jim Haldene, Curt Pease, Randy Messenger, and Keith Whitehill. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
