Obituary

Frank passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at his home in Westboro.

Memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Veterans Museum or the Tarkio Valley Antique Tractor Association.

Franklin Wesley Manes was born on the family farm in Atchison County, Missouri on June 17, 1929, the son of James Herschel and Orpha Katherine (Sherman) Manes.  Frank entered into peace at his homestead on October 17, 2021 at the age of 92 years.

Frank's early years were spent in the community of Northboro.  He graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1947.  He enlisted in the Iowa National Guard and served for 29 years, before his retirement in 1989.  On August 20, 1950 at the Northboro United Methodist Church, Frank was united in marriage to Joyce "Darlene" Armstrong. The couple resided in the Northboro, Shenandoah and Blanchard communities during the course of their marriage.

Frank was a true steward of the land, having worked in agriculture his entire adult life.  He also worked seasonally for Earl May and drove a school bus for Westboro/Tarkio Schools.  He was a member of the Blanchard United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Tarkio Valley Antique Tractor Association.  He had a true passion for farming, tractors, attending tractor shows, corresponding with other tractor enthusiasts and reading.  Before his retirement, he could often be seen helping to park cars and direct traffic at various Shenandoah community events.  Frank's friendliness, wisdom and advice will be missed by many.

He was welcomed into his eternal home by his parents, his wife Darlene and his sister Kleyla Macracken.  Those left to cherish his memory include his children John (Robyn) Manes, Debra (Paul) Slater and Julie Manes; grandchildren Regan Slater, Ryan (Christi) Slater, Lauren (Jordan) Goettsche, Evan Slater, Taylor Manes, Colby (Amber) Manes and Jade Manes; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of good friends.
