Frank Brannen's Obituary
Frank Gerald Brannen, son of Gerald and Edith Amy Brannen, was born on May 19, 1926, in Denver, Colorado and entered into rest on January 12, 2008, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center in Villisca, Iowa at the age of 81.
Frank spent his childhood years growing up in Denver, CO, Omaha, NE, Clarinda, IA, and Shenandoah, IA. Frank graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1944 and attended Creighton University for two years. Frank served in the United States Navy from 1944 until 1945.
On December 27, 1950, Frank was united in marriage to Frances Gater at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Northboro, IA. Frank began farming in 1948 after attending Creighton University and has been farming ever since. Frank also worked as a stockman. Frank belonged to the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #88. He served as a Boy Scout Leader and also on the Fremont County Extension Council.
Frank enjoyed Amateur Radio W0DVS, radio controlled airplanes, traveling, Glenn Miller and Big Band music.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Gerald and Edith Brannen; stepfather, George Woodle; and sister-in-law, Katie Gater. He is survived by his wife, Frances Brannen of Northboro, IA; son, Larry Brannen and wife Donna of Shenandoah, IA; daughter, Terri Brannen of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; son, Greg Brannen and wife Debi of Spring Hill, TN; son, Mark Brannen and wife Kim of Wolsey, SD; son, Kevin Brannen of Shenandoah, IA; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. from the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home. Words of comfort were given by Rev. Vern Smith. Betty Andersen attended the Memory Register. Casket Bearers were David Brannen, Mark Mitchell, Dan Kinsella, Dave Matheson, Mike Claybaugh, and Nicholas Matheson. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cememtery in Shenandoah. Memorials in Frank's name are being directed to the American Legion Post #88 or St. Mary's Catholic church in Shenandoah.
