Obituary

Frances Helene Laverty Tyner was born July 14, 1926, in Omaha, NE. She was the daughter of Jay and Ellen Laverty and grew up near Riverton, IA. Frances died January 27, 2017, in Shenandoah, IA.

Known to most as Fran, she graduated from Hamburg High School and worked for a time in Omaha before her marriage to William W. Tyner at Summit United Methodist Church on March 17, 1946. Fran and Bill made their life long home across the road from Summit Church on the Tyner farm. They had two children, Susan Tyner (Curtis) and Richard Jay Tyner.

Fran worked as a secretary at Mount Arbor Nurseries and then with Vern Fisher and, subsequently, with Larry Randolph. Fran was also active in the community and in her children's school and 4-H activities. She was a member of PEO and a life long member of Summit United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Shenandoah Hospital for a number of years as well as the Shenandoah Music Association, Shenandoah library, American Legion Auxiliary and numerous other volunteer activities in the community. Recognized for their leadership in the community, Fran and Bill were Farm Family of the Week (WOW-TV) and 2001 Farm Family of the Year (Shenandoah Farm and Industry Association).

Fran was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Ellen Laverty; husband, William Tyner; grandson, Scott Goodale and infant great grandson; and, son-in-law, Jim Curtis. Surviving are Richard Jay Tyner, Shenandoah; Susan Curtis , Lafayette, CO; grandson Todd Goodale (Tamar), Charlottesville, VA; granddaughter-in-law Jen Goodale, Boulder, CO and three great grandchildren, Ava and Graham of Charlottesville and Asher of Boulder. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Athen, and nieces and nephews, Don Athen (Jody), Judy Brady (Dan), Tom Dusenberry (Debbie), Gary Dusenberry (Mary), Tammie Andre and John Andre.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home.

Memorial Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday, February 10, 2017 from 4-6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Summit United Methodist Church, Shenandoah American Legion Post #88 Color Guard, or P.E.O. Chapter JA.
