Obituary

Floyd Eugene Elliott was born on March 4, 1932 in rural Essex, Iowa, the son of Alfred Wesley and Josephine (Anderson) Elliot, Sr. Floyd entered into eternal peace on Sunday evening, March 14, 2010 at the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Floyd was raised in the Essex community and attended the Essex Presbyterian Church as a young man. At the age of 18 he joined the service, but later received a medical discharge. He then enlisted in the National Guard and served for 5 years before enlisting in the United States Army. During his three year enlistment Floyd served his country with pride in Korea and Vietnam. Returning home, he lived for a short time in Kansas City, Omaha, and Red Oak before settling in Blockton in 1972.

On May 9, 1976 he was united in marriage to Nina Philpott in Grant City, Missouri. Floyd helped Nina raise her four children Luther, Theresa, Diane, and Lloyd. Floyd was a model race car enthusiast who had over 70 models in his prized collection. He was also a member of the DAV Des Moines Chapter #20 and enjoyed attending many conventions. Other passions included watching stock car races in Corning, fishing, and playing with his grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Earl, Lawrence and Alfred Elliott; sisters Betty Jean Allshouse, Eldora Elliott, Martha Ann Josephson, and Ruth Cox; sister-in-law Mary Elliott; and brother-in-law Harley Foreman.

Those left to honor his memory include his devoted wife Nina of Blockton; step-children Luther Glenn Philpott and wife Cheryl of Waukee, IA, Theresa Lee Philpott of Des Moines, IA, Diane Lynn Jett and husband Ralph of Hurricane, WV, and Lloyd Wayne Philpott of Baltimore, MD; 6 grandchildren 5 great-grandchildren; brother Franklin Elliott and wife Sandy of Red Oak, IA; sister Geraldine Foreman of Carroll, IA; other family and friends.
